Event to Improve Children’s Reading and Writing Skills in Guernsey

Families in Guernsey are being encouraged to attend a special event aimed at boosting their children’s reading and writing skills before they start school. The event, organized by the States early years team, will take place on 27 April at Bright Beginnings children’s centre.

Children between the ages of three and five are invited to participate in activities focused on spoken language and vocabulary. Parents are also encouraged to join in and learn how to support their children’s literacy development.

Zara Betts, a specialist early years speech and language therapist, emphasized the importance of sharing books with young children to foster a love of stories and reading for pleasure. The event will also celebrate the completion of the Language for Literacy training programme by several pre-schools and receptions in the Bailiwick.

A similar session is planned for Alderney later in the year, ensuring that families across the region have access to valuable resources for early literacy development.
