Dolly Parton Reveals the Key to a Successful Marriage: “A Little Space”
Country music legend Dolly Parton has shared the secret to her successful 57-year marriage with husband Carl Dean – a little space.
In an interview with E! News, the 78-year-old singer revealed that spending time apart from her 81-year-old husband has helped strengthen their relationship.
Dolly explained, “I’m just saying, anything new gets old. And I think if you just kind of stay together so much, you just nitpick every little thing and notice all that.”
The Jolene hitmaker emphasized the importance of having time away from each other to keep their marriage exciting. “It’s worked for us because we both do different things and it’s exciting when we are together,” she said. “So the fact that there’s some little space that makes it exciting when you go home.”
Dolly also shared that she and Carl enjoy spending time together by cooking, traveling in their RV, and having picnics by the river. Despite their busy schedules, the couple makes sure to have “date days” to bond and create lasting memories.
When asked if her husband had ever seen her without her signature hair and make-up, Dolly jokingly replied, “Oh, of course. Carl has seen me every which way. In fact, I remember when we first got married, I had just got out of the shower and I didn’t have my shoes on. He said, ‘Well, you ain’t big as a bar soap.'”
Dolly and Carl met in Nashville, Tennessee in 1964 and tied the knot two years later. Their enduring love story serves as an inspiration to many, proving that a little space can go a long way in maintaining a happy and healthy marriage.
