Michael Douglas criticizes use of intimacy coordinators on Hollywood film sets

Michael Douglas, the legendary actor known for his roles in sexy thrillers like Basic Instinct and Fatal Attraction, recently shared his thoughts on the use of intimacy coordinators on Hollywood film sets. In an interview with The Telegraph, the 79-year-old actor expressed his reservations about the practice, despite acknowledging the need for it in light of recent incidents of harassment and misconduct.

While Douglas himself feels he is “past the age where I’ve got to worry about that,” he believes that the presence of intimacy coordinators represents executives taking control away from filmmakers. He admitted, “There have been some terrible faux pas and harassment,” but added, “Before, we seemed to take care of that ourselves.”

The actor’s comments come at a time when the entertainment industry is grappling with issues of consent and boundaries on set. Intimacy coordinators are now being hired to ensure that actors feel safe and comfortable during intimate scenes, and to prevent any instances of misconduct.

Despite his reservations, Douglas continues to be a prominent figure in Hollywood, currently starring as Ben Franklin in the limited series Franklin on Apple TV+. As the industry continues to evolve and adapt to changing norms, the debate over the use of intimacy coordinators is likely to persist.
