Coco Gauff Feels the Love at WTA Finals Cancun
Coco Gauff Receives Marriage Proposal During WTA Finals in Cancun
CANCUN, Mexico — The GNP Seguros WTA Finals in Cancun got off to an exciting start for Coco Gauff, as the young tennis star received a marriage proposal during her opening doubles match on Day 1.
This wasn’t the first time Gauff has been the recipient of an overzealous fan’s proposal. In a post-match interview after her singles win over Ons Jabeur, Gauff recalled a previous incident where a fan proposed to her and tennis legend Steffi Graf jokingly asked about the fan’s financial status.
Despite being tempted to recreate that moment, Gauff decided against it, not wanting to jinx her performance on the court. However, she did express her appreciation for the support she has received from fans in Mexico.
During her match against Jabeur, Gauff dominated, losing just one game and making history as the first American teenager to win a match at the WTA Finals since Venus Williams in 1999. The fans in attendance showed their support with organized chants and cheers, leaving Gauff pleasantly surprised by the outpouring of love.
“I was really surprised by how many people were cheering for me,” Gauff said. “They had a little chant for me a couple of times. The Mexican fans have shown me so much love, and I am grateful to be here in Cancun and to have their support.”
As the tournament continues, Gauff is looking forward to more fan support and hopes to continue her winning streak. With her engaging personality and impressive skills on the court, it’s no wonder that fans are rallying behind this rising tennis star in Cancun.
